About

Dr. Nay: A Lifelong Advocate for Educational Equity

Dr. Nay is an impassioned educator, curriculum developer, and champion for social justice in education. Her journey from the classrooms of South Jamaica, Queens, to the lecture halls of New York University, and eventually to being an esteemed college professor, showcases her resilience and unwavering commitment to empowering students and educators alike. With a Bachelor’s degree from New York University, a Master’s in Literacy from CUNY-Brooklyn College, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia, Dr. Nay boasts a strong academic foundation. However, her credentials only scratch the surface of her 36-year quest to bring about meaningful change in education.

Professional Journey and Milestones:

Dr. Nay started her career teaching in the very elementary school she once attended, determined to lift up the next generation from her community. Recognizing literacy as the cornerstone of academic success, she specialized as a reading specialist, further honing her craft in various NYC Public Schools and Charlottesville City Schools. However, it wasn’t long before Dr. Nay realized the need for systemic change. This led her to earn her doctorate, specializing in curriculum development and multicultural education, initially aiming to become a school superintendent.

Although the role of superintendent was her initial goal, the academic sphere had other plans for her. She became a college professor, educating thousands of pre-service and in-service teachers, focusing on diversity, literacy instruction, and family engagement.

She's not just a teacher; she's a force for change, wielding her vast experience to redefine the academic landscape through her educational consulting company.

Whether in the classroom, in her writings, or on the speaker’s platform, Dr. Nay is a compelling advocate for educational equity. She has served as Chair and member of accreditation teams for the New York State Department of Education, pushing for higher standards in teacher preparation, especially in culturally responsive teaching.
